Because of a rain out the day before, Orel Hershiser was able to throw again, and he threw another gem. The only chink's in Hershiser's armor was a RBI double by Mookie Wilson (1-4, 2B, RBI) in the 3rd and a solo HR by Kevin Elster (1-1, HR, RBI) in the 5th. The Dodgers hit just enough to edge New York. John Shelby's (1-4, RBI) single in the 1st started the scoring and a they took the lead for good in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Mickey Hatcher and on a four base error by Darryl Strawberry. Steve Sax and Mike Marshall had two hits each for the Dodgers.

John Tudor continued the dominance by Dodgers pitching, going the route to win it for L.A. Tudor started with 4.2 no-hit innings and his only blemish was an RBI single by Gary Carter (1-3, RBI) in the 7th. The Dodgers offense was provided by a two-run HR by Jeff Hamilton (1-4, HR, 2 RBI) in the 6th and a three-run shot by Rick Dempsey (2-3, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) in the 8th.

Belcher had a stretch in which he retired 12 in a row. Kirk Gibson's (2-3, HR, 2 RBI) 2-run HR in the 1st was all the Dodgers would need. Mickey Hatcher (1-4, HR, RBI) would add a solo homer of his own in the 5th. Rick Dempsey chipped in 2 hits. Keith Hernandez (1-3, HR, RBI) provided the Mets with their only run.
